Business Cards - A Collection of Memories

Business cards, for me, started off as a bit of a status symbol. I got my first box of them at age twenty-one and was all too happy to sling them to whoever would take them.

Then, over the years, I became more aware of restaurants and cafes having them on hand, as a key part of their branding. Though I can't quite remember the first time I took one, I do remember adapting a mindset of 'Fuck, this place is great - I better take a card to remind myself to come back again.'

As you get older, life becomes more serious. People come and go and all of a sudden, meals and catch-ups carry more weight. It could be a birthday dinner, catch up with a long lost lover, a last supper or celebration. I make a point to take a business card of everywhere I go,  as a little memento of times shared with good people.

It's delightful to think the significance of a bit of cardboard can change from an ego-inflation device, to a stack of unique and beautiful memories.
